Why a low TOG rating makes a difference

Parenthood is full of choices, especially when it comes to caring for your newborn baby. One of the biggest decisions is creating the right sleep environment for your little one. At Fedde&Kees, we understand that parenthood can be challenging enough. That's why we want to support you with our carefully curated range of baby bedding. Our products, such as the NUNKI sheet and the BUNDI sleeping bag, are specifically designed with you and your baby in mind. That's why we've opted for a low TOG rating.

Why a low TOG value?

Simply because your baby's safety and comfort are our top priority. We want your baby to be happy with our products. To start at the beginning: TOG stands for Thermal Overall Grade. It tells you how warm bedding is. A low TOG rating means the bedding retains less heat, while a high TOG rating provides more warmth.

At Fedde&Kees, we've opted for bedding with a low TOG rating. It's all about creating a comfortable sleep environment for your little one. Read on to discover why a low TOG value is our best choice.

A low TOG value is important because...

1. Safe for all seasons. With Fedde&Kees, you don't need to worry about seasonal bedding. Our products with a low TOG value are versatile and suitable for year-round use. In winter, you can easily add extra warmth by laying a blanket over the NUNKI sheet, a thicker sleeping bag, or by combining the products with warmer clothing. This way, you'll need to buy fewer new products and can create a cosy combination for your baby's bedding.

2. Prevent overheating. Heat is more dangerous than cold! This is because babies cannot yet sweat like adults do. They lose heat through their heads and hands, which makes cooling down a bit more challenging. If your baby gets too hot in bed, it can have serious consequences. By choosing products with a low TOG value, you reduce the risk of overheating and ensure your baby always sleeps safely and comfortably.

3. Every nursery is different. Every house is different. Perhaps the sun shines on your nursery all day, causing it to heat up quickly, or perhaps you suffer from draughts in your home. The ideal temperature for a nursery is 18 to 20 degrees Celsius, but we also understand that this isn't always achievable. That's why it's useful to start with a low TOG rating, as it's much easier to add warmth than to remove it.

How to tell when babies are cold. One of the biggest advantages of a low TOG rating is that babies immediately let you know when they are cold. A baby that is too cold will start crying straight away, giving you as a parent the chance to react quickly and keep them warm appropriately. Babies who are too hot often no longer have the energy to make themselves heard. So, as a parent, you hardly notice if your baby is too warm. That's what makes it so dangerous!

Every baby is different

Your baby is unique and has its own needs when it comes to sleep. That's why we've opted for an approach that gives you, as a parent, the freedom to determine the correct TOG value based on your individual needs.

With our NUNKI bed linen en BUNDI sleeping bags Can you care for your baby in a safe and comfortable way, while having the freedom to adapt to changing seasons and temperature fluctuations. Give your baby the best start with our products that combine safety and comfort in a way that suits your unique situation.

I'm Frederieke, married to Ewoud and mum to four little ones. After living in many places, I've settled in Nieuwkoop. I worked in sales until my fourth child was born. Fedde was a colicky baby, and it was out of this desperation that I came up with the Fedde&Kees products. I turned my life upside down and started my own business. Since 2018, I've been helping other parents to get better sleep!
