A sleep tunnel is slid over the mattress like a ‘cover’. Thanks to the stretchy fabric, a sleep tunnel applies deep pressure to the entire body. This provides a feeling of security and safety, making it easier to fall asleep.
Sleep sacks are not suitable for babies: the stretchy fabric along the entire length puts too much pressure on the legs, hindering hip development. Sleep sacks can also be dangerous for young children. If a child younger than 2 years ends up under a sleep sack, they are often not strong enough to push the tight cover away. Due to the thick, stretchy fabric, the child can become trapped and struggle to breathe. There is a risk of ‘rebreathing’: the carbon dioxide we exhale may not escape sufficiently, which can lead to the baby suffocating. Therefore, a sleep sack is only suitable for (older) children and adults.
